Ocasio-Cortez Blames Guns For Assassination of Charlie Kirk

Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez quickly pointed to gun violence and Republican inaction as contributing factors. Speaking to reporters, AOC emphasized the need for real action over rhetoric, stressing that Americans expect leadership to address daily gun deaths. She highlighted the continued refusal by some lawmakers to support any gun control measures.

Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University. The shooter fired from a building about 200 yards away. Just moments before, Kirk had responded to a tense question about transgender mass shooters, ending with a remark that would be his last before the fatal shot was fired. He was rushed away by his security, but the wound proved fatal.

Authorities initially detained suspects but later released them after confirming they were not involved. The FBI continues to investigate as the shooter remains at large. News of Kirk’s death prompted an outpouring of grief from conservative leaders, including Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and Utah Senator Mike Lee, all offering prayers and support for his family.

The attack was widely condemned across the political spectrum. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro called the violence horrifying and stressed that political violence has no place in the U.S. Others echoed similar sentiments, urging the nation to speak with moral clarity and unity in rejecting hatred and division.
