Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman broke with many in his party to defend Donald Trump against accusations of being an autocrat. In an interview with CNN’s Manu Raju, Fetterman rejected comparisons to Adolf Hitler and said such rhetoric only fuels division. “I think you just don’t ever, ever compare anyone to Hitler,” he argued, urging Americans to lower the temperature of political discourse in light of the recent assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Fetterman stressed that Trump was elected through a democratic process, even if the outcome wasn’t what Democrats wanted. “That does not make him an autocrat,” he said, adding that while Trump is “different,” he still represents the choice of American voters. Fetterman, who has occasionally clashed with his party’s base, emphasized his respect for democracy, saying leaders must learn to work within the results.
Meanwhile, federal investigators continue to piece together the case against Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of shooting Kirk at a Utah Valley University event. Robinson was tracked after surveillance footage showed him fleeing across rooftops. His father ultimately recognized him in the released images, consulted a minister, and convinced him to surrender during the 33-hour manhunt.
Officials revealed Robinson was living with his transgender partner, identified as 22-year-old Lance Twiggs, in southern Utah. The FBI said Twiggs has been fully cooperative and is not suspected of involvement. Evidence from their apartment has been sent to Quantico for forensic review. Authorities stress that every possible link is being investigated, but for now, Robinson remains the sole suspect in the shocking killing.
