An active shooter opened fire inside Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan, early Thursday morning. The incident occurred just after 7 a.m. ET, around 24 miles north of Detroit, and immediately triggered a lockdown across the facility.
Authorities confirmed that a patient in the emergency room was shot during the attack. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was treated on-site before being transferred for further medical care. Officials have not disclosed their current condition.
At this time, it remains unclear whether the patient was specifically targeted or if the shooting was a random act of violence. Police are continuing to investigate the motive while reviewing hospital surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.
The hospital has since reopened under heightened security, and law enforcement is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Community leaders expressed shock at the violence in a place meant for healing, calling for continued vigilance as investigators work to uncover more details.
