The new owners are moving in tomorrow. But don’t worry — I’ve already moved into a beautiful senior community. And since you like this place so much, I listed your contact as the first reference for the new tenants.” Their jaws dropped as the realization hit: they had packed themselves out of their own comfort.

Later, Dad explained everything to me with a twinkle in his eye. “I wasn’t angry,” he said. “I just wanted them to understand that respect goes both ways.” His quiet lesson said more than any argument ever could.
