DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A newborn was among eight people injured in a three-vehicle crash involving an ambulance early Saturday morning, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). The collision occurred around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Pine Avenue and Monroe Street in Albany.
Investigators say a Dougherty County EMS ambulance, carrying three EMS personnel and two patients, including the infant, collided with a 2017 Ford pickup truck while traveling on Monroe Street. The impact then caused a 2023 Buick Encore traveling on Pine Avenue to be struck as well.
In total, nine individuals were involved in the crash. Eight sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Phoebe Main Hospital, where they are all listed as stable. Officials confirmed that emergency procedures were followed immediately after the incident to ensure patient and crew safety.
Dougherty County EMS Director James Gibney expressed relief that no serious injuries occurred, stating, “The safety of our patients, crews, and community remains our highest priority.” The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
