Suspect in second Charlotte light rail stabbing ID’d as twice deported illegal immigrant with criminal history

Court records obtained by Fox News Digital reveal that the man arrested in a violent stabbing on a Charlotte, North Carolina, light rail train is a criminal illegal immigrant who has been deported multiple times. The suspect, 33-year-old Oscar Solarzano of Honduras, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and intoxicated/disruptive behavior. Authorities noted that no bond was set due to his immigration status.

According to Department of Homeland Security sources, Solarzano was first deported in 2018 under the Trump administration. He illegally re-entered the U.S. in 2021 during the Biden administration, was deported again, and later returned as a “got-away” at an unknown time and location. Solarzano also has a criminal history in the U.S., including a prior robbery conviction and arrests for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, and providing false identification.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the stabbing around 4:49 p.m. on Friday and found the victim, Kenyon Kareem-Shemar Dobie, suffering from a stab wound. Dobie was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition. Court documents allege that before the attack, Solarzano broke into a railroad car while carrying a large fixed-blade knife and, while intoxicated, challenged Dobie to a fight while shouting slurred, unintelligible words. Solarzano is scheduled to appear in court on December 8 and will later be transferred to ICE custody.

The incident comes months after another high-profile light rail stabbing in Charlotte that left 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska dead. Her killing, and now this latest attack, have fueled renewed political criticism. Former President Donald Trump and others publicly blamed local leadership for rising violence, urging officials to take stronger action. Local and federal agencies have not yet provided additional comment as the investigation continues.
