How a Man Created His Dream Home Using Shipping Containers

Will Breaux spent years searching for an architect who could translate his unconventional vision into a real home, but no one fully understood what he imagined. Instead of giving up, he made a bold decision: he would design and build the house himself. With no formal construction experience, Will immersed himself in research until he discovered a solution that matched his creativity and goals—shipping containers.

That discovery sparked the creation of his unique home on McGowen Street in Houston, Texas. By repurposing containers, Will combined sustainability, durability, and a striking modern aesthetic. The 2,600-square-foot structure rises three stories high, blending industrial character with inviting, livable spaces. Massive windows and clean lines give the home a bright, open feel, while a rooftop deck adds a perfect spot for relaxing or hosting friends.

Inside, the first floor is fully finished and showcases Will’s personality and careful planning. It includes a media room, bar, guest space, and studio—each designed with comfort and purpose in mind. The upper levels are still being completed, but even in progress, they hint at spacious living areas, workspaces, and flexible rooms that will transform the home even further.

In the end, Will’s project is more than a house—it’s a testament to determination, imagination, and the courage to trust your own vision. What began as an unconventional idea became a real, tangible dream home, proving that sometimes the best results come from stepping off the traditional path and building your own.
