US suspends immigrant visas from 75 countries — here’s the full list

Families worldwide are facing sudden uncertainty as immigrant visa processing is set to be suspended for applicants from dozens of countries starting January 21, 2026. Plans for reunification, relocation, and resettlement that took years to prepare are now in jeopardy, leaving households scrambling for clarity.

The speed and scope of the change have stunned even seasoned immigration advocates. With little notice, a system usually defined by slow bureaucracy has shifted into abrupt disruption, turning long-anticipated approvals into open-ended questions.

For those affected, the consequences are deeply personal. Many families already sold homes, left jobs, or pulled children from school, only to find their futures paused indefinitely. Skilled workers, students, caregivers, and retirees alike are caught in a blanket decision that ignores individual circumstances.

As the deadline approaches, uncertainty defines the moment. Limited exceptions offer little reassurance, and for millions of applicants, the question is no longer when their lives will move forward—but whether they will be allowed to at all.
