Lauren Draper, a 22-year-old mother from Cardiff, experienced an extraordinary fourth pregnancy when her baby bump grew to an extreme size due to severe polyhydramnios, a condition caused by excess amniotic fluid. Strangers often stared or joked, but by around 29 weeks, the rapid growth began seriously affecting her daily life and physical comfort.
The condition developed because her unborn baby wasn’t swallowing the fluid properly, causing Lauren’s uterus to expand rapidly. By 31 weeks, the risk of complications forced doctors to admit her to the hospital, where she remained for three weeks, dealing with bruised ribs, limited mobility, and constant concern for her baby’s safety.

At 34 weeks and four days, her waters broke, dramatically reducing the size of her bump—but relief was short-lived. Lauren suffered a placental abruption, began hemorrhaging, and underwent an emergency C-section after significant blood loss.
Her daughter, Olyve, was born not breathing and required resuscitation before being placed in an incubator with ongoing respiratory issues. Despite the trauma, Lauren remains hopeful, believing in her daughter’s strength. Their story is a powerful reminder of how unpredictable pregnancy can be—and how resilience often emerges in the hardest moments.
