The FBI’s Phoenix field office has released an updated description of a man seen in doorbell camera footage connected to the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie and increased the reward for information leading to her recovery to $100,000. The individual is described as approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build, carrying a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack. Officials said the clearer description is meant to help focus credible public tips and reduce misinformation.
Since early February, investigators have received a large volume of information — more than 13,000 tips to the FBI and nearly 18,000 calls to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities acknowledged that many submissions, including tips from psychics and unrelated speculation, have made it more challenging to prioritize actionable leads. Even so, they continue to carefully review every credible report.
Law enforcement is urging residents within a two-mile radius of Guthrie’s home to check and submit doorbell or security footage from key dates in late January, particularly during evening hours. An unconfirmed tip involving a white van is also being examined. Investigators have collected potential physical evidence, including a glove found roughly a mile and a half from her residence, which is undergoing forensic testing for fingerprints, DNA, hair, and fiber traces.
Officials emphasized that locating Guthrie and ensuring her safety remains the primary goal. They hope the increased reward and refined suspect description will encourage reliable information from the public while allowing investigators to remain methodical, focused, and fair in their ongoing work.
