He is charged with transmitting a ransom demand in interstate commerce and using telecommunications to threaten or harass without disclosing his identity. Investigators say the family received text messages requesting Bitcoin payment confirmation shortly after publicly pleading for Nancy Guthrie’s safe return. Authorities traced the messages to Callella through an email account and VOIP service, and he allegedly admitted to sending them after obtaining family information online.
The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest of those responsible for her disappearance.
