A dangerous escalation is being reported across the Persian Gulf as Iranian state television, citing military sources, announced attacks targeting U.S. military bases in the region. The reports claim that several bases linked to U.S. forces were struck, prompting local authorities in multiple countries to advise residents to remain indoors and avoid areas near military facilities.
According to Reuters, a powerful explosion was reported in Abu Dhabi, after which the United Arab Emirates temporarily closed its airspace. Early reports suggest that the Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE, which hosts U.S. forces, may have been targeted with ballistic missiles.
In Bahrain, smoke was reportedly seen rising from the Al Jufair district, the area where the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet is headquartered, following what officials described as a suspected Iranian attack.
Meanwhile in Qatar, the Interior Ministry urged citizens to shelter in place after a Patriot missile defense system reportedly intercepted a missile aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base. Authorities there also announced the closure of the country’s airspace as a precaution while the situation continues to develop.
