A 7-year-old boy in India survived a shocking accident after a large iron nail became lodged in his brain while he was playing. According to reports, the child from the Balrampur district accidentally fell onto the nail, which pierced through his neck and traveled upward toward his brain. The injury was extremely serious, and he was quickly taken to a nearby hospital before being transferred to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow for specialized treatment.
Doctors at KGMU discovered that the nail had penetrated dangerously close to critical blood vessels and brain tissue. Medical professionals later explained that the object had “barely missed” a major blood vessel, which could have caused fatal bleeding. Because of the delicate location of the injury, surgeons had to plan the procedure carefully to avoid damaging vital nerves connecting the mouth and brain.
A team of specialists performed a complex surgery that lasted around four hours. During the operation, doctors carefully removed the nail while protecting surrounding brain structures and sensitive nerves. The procedure required extreme precision, as even a small mistake could have caused permanent neurological damage.
Despite the severity of the accident, the boy survived the surgery, which doctors described as remarkable given how close the nail came to critical areas of the brain. Medical staff said the case highlights both the dangers of everyday accidents and the importance of rapid medical care and skilled surgical intervention in life-threatening emergencies.
