In early 2015, Marla McCants was fighting for her life. At nearly 800 pounds, she could no longer stand, walk to the bathroom, or care for herself without constant help from her children. Her health had reached a dangerous point, and the future looked grim as her weight took control of nearly every part of her life.
When My 600-lb Life began following her story, Marla made the decision to seek real help. She later admitted how deeply food addiction had taken over, even keeping a fryer beside her bed so she could cook without moving. Beneath the weight was years of emotional pain, trauma, and a struggle that went far beyond food itself.
After traveling to Houston, she met Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, but her path was anything but easy. She struggled with the strict diet, intense cravings, and the physical challenge of getting up and moving. Still, after facing fear and doubt, she agreed to gastric bypass surgery — a major turning point that finally gave her a real chance to begin changing her life.
Even after surgery, Marla’s journey remained full of setbacks, emotional lows, and hard-earned progress. But she kept going, supported especially by her daughter Sierra, who became one of her biggest sources of strength. What made Marla’s story so powerful was not just the weight she lost, but the honesty, resilience, and determination she showed in rebuilding her life.
