President Donald Trump reacted to the Senate drama over Pete Hegseth’s confirmation as Secretary of Defense. Three Republicans, including Mitch McConnell, joined all 47 Democrats in rejecting Hegseth, forcing Vice President JD Vance to cast the tie-breaking vote.
Trump expressed his support for Hegseth, calling him “a great Secretary of Defense.” When asked about McConnell’s vote, Trump claimed he didn’t know how McConnell voted but emphasized, “Winning is what matters.”
Despite the defections, many Republican senators praised Hegseth’s military experience and leadership qualities. Sen. Lindsey Graham called him a “change agent” with a passion for the military, while Sen. Ted Cruz expressed pride in voting for Hegseth’s confirmation.
Sen. Markwayne Mullin declared, “We did it, America,” celebrating the confirmation win.
