Poop and Colon Cancer: Warning Signs To Look For And When To Seek For Help

Colon cancer can cause a variety of changes in bowel movements. Symptoms include blood in the stool, narrow “pencil” stools, rectal bleeding, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. In more advanced stages, the condition may lead to dark, sticky stool, nausea, weight loss, and even bowel obstruction.

Other signs include feeling as though you cannot fully empty your bowels, a condition known as tenesmus, as well as alternating between diarrhea and constipation. Fatigue from anemia is also common, as the body may not be getting enough nutrients.

While these symptoms can sometimes be caused by other conditions, they should never be ignored. It’s important to have any unusual or persistent changes in your bowel habits evaluated by a doctor. Early detection plays a key role in successful treatment.

Colon cancer is highly treatable when caught early, so if you experience any of these symptoms, don’t hesitate to seek medical advice. Addressing concerns promptly can make all the difference.
