President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to halt several cases involving Biden administration policies, including environmental regulations and student loan forgiveness. Acting Solicitor General Sarah Harris filed motions requesting a delay while the new administration reviews these policies.
The Supreme Court was set to hear arguments in the coming months, but Trump’s DOJ is now seeking to freeze all deadlines. Biden’s student loan forgiveness program, which canceled debt for over 5 million borrowers, faced legal challenges from Republican attorneys general who argued it exceeded presidential authority.
A key case involves Biden’s “borrower defense” rule, which aimed to forgive loans for defrauded students but was blocked by the 5th Circuit Court. While Trump’s request could make these cases moot, the Supreme Court had agreed to review them before the transition.
Additionally, Trump has pushed for increased domestic fossil fuel production, opposing Biden’s climate policies. His administration’s legal moves signal a broader effort to reverse key aspects of Biden’s agenda.
