A bus crash on Interstate 20 in Warren County, Mississippi, early Saturday killed seven people and injured 36. The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded at 12:40 a.m., confirming the bus, traveling from Atlanta to Dallas, veered off the road and overturned. Among the deceased were two Guatemalan siblings, ages 6 and 16. Authorities have not yet released the victims’ names.
The NTSB reported a possible tire failure but has not determined the exact cause. No other vehicles were involved. The bus, a 2018 Volvo, was owned by Regiomontanos Autobuses, based in Laredo, Texas, with a location in Atlanta. Federal records show the company has had multiple accidents in the past two years, including one fatal crash.
All 36 survivors were taken to hospitals with unspecified injuries. The bus manifest listed 41 passengers but did not include two drivers who were also on board. Regiomontanos Autobuses has not issued a statement, and a company representative declined to comment.
The company, a for-hire transportation provider, has a federal safety rating of “conditional” and is under compliance review. The Mississippi Highway Patrol and NTSB are investigating the crash to determine its cause.
