Selena Gomez responds to criticism of posting crying videos

Selena Gomez recently shared a tearful video on Instagram about the U.S. immigration policies, expressing her sorrow over the situation. However, the video sparked backlash, with some accusing her of making the issue about herself rather than taking constructive action. Others defended her, saying her sympathy was genuine.

In response to the criticism, Gomez deleted the video and posted a message saying, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” before removing that as well.

This isn’t the first time Gomez has used her platform to discuss sensitive topics.

Gomez has long supported causes like immigrant rights and mental health, including through her Netflix docuseries Living Undocumented and the Rare Impact Fund.
