Married World Champion skaters killed in DC plane crash

A tragic plane crash near Washington, D.C., has shocked the nation. A passenger jet collided with a U.S. Army helicopter near Reagan National Airport, killing all those on board. The crash, which occurred around 9:00 PM local time, involved a commercial flight carrying 60 passengers and a military helicopter with three soldiers on a training mission. CCTV footage captured a massive explosion, with both aircraft crashing into the Potomac River.

Among the victims were several members of the figure skating community. The U.S. Figure Skating Association confirmed that skaters, coaches, and their families were on the flight after attending a development camp. Tragically, former world champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, along with their son Maxim, a competitive skater, were reportedly on board. The loss has deeply impacted the skating community.

Shishkova and Naumov were celebrated Russian skaters who became renowned coaches after retiring. The pair had moved to the U.S. and were involved in coaching at the Skating Club of Boston.
