On January 29, 2025, a plane crash near Washington, DC, claimed 67 lives, including 11-year-old Angela Yang and 12-year-old Sean Kay, two promising figure skaters. The pair, undefeated in juvenile ice dance, had recently won multiple titles and had bright futures ahead.
Angela, inspired by her siblings’ love of hockey, began skating young and dreamed of partnering on the ice. Sean, a natural skater, had plans to move up to the junior level while continuing to compete with Angela.
Just hours before the crash, Angela shared a joyful Instagram post about her camp experience, unaware it would be her final one. Their loss has deeply affected the skating community, with their routines going viral in tribute.
Along with Angela and Sean, their coach Alexandr Kirsanov and others from the skating world were also aboard. This heartbreaking tragedy has left the figure skating community mourning the loss of these young talents and their coach.
