Young ice skating sisters killed in D.C. plane crash

The nation is still reeling from the tragic D.C. plane crash that claimed the lives of 67 individuals, including the beloved Livingston family. Donna and Peter Livingston, along with their two daughters, Everly and Alydia, were on their way home after supporting the sisters at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Kansas. The girls, known for their passion and talent, were cherished members of the Washington Figure Skating Club.

Days before the tragedy, Everly and Alydia had shared a joyful social media post, proudly wearing their athlete lanyards. Everly, a rising star in the figure skating community, had big dreams of joining Team USA. The Livingston sisters, fondly known as the “Ice Skating Sisters,” inspired young skaters with their enthusiasm and dedication, becoming a beacon of hope for many.

The figure skating world has come together in mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the country. The Ashburn Ice House, where the sisters trained, has become a place of remembrance, while other skating clubs have held moments of silence to honor the victims. Cassandra Atkins, who designed custom skating outfits for the girls, spoke about their joyful spirit and their mother’s unwavering support.

The crash, the deadliest U.S. aviation disaster in nearly 24 years, was a result of a collision between American Airlines Flight 5342 and a military Black Hawk helicopter. As investigations continue, communities across the nation continue to grieve, ensuring the legacies of Everly, Alydia, and all those lost live on through their contributions to the sport.
