America is demanding answers after a deadly midair collision near Washington, D.C., involving an Army Black Hawk helicopter and American Airlines Flight 5342.
The passenger jet, en route from Wichita, Kansas, was seconds from landing when it struck the military aircraft, plunging into the Potomac River.The plane carried 60 passengers and four crew members, while the helicopter had three soldiers on a training flight.
President Donald Trump, briefed on the disaster, questioned the actions of the helicopter pilot and air traffic controllers on Truth Social, stating,
“This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented. NOT GOOD!!!” He later softened his tone in a follow-up post as more details emerged.
