Texas Rep. Al Green, known for previous impeachment attempts against President Trump, launched a new impeachment effort in 2025. Speaking on the House floor, Green criticized the president’s comments about Gaza, calling it “ethnic cleansing” and accusing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu of complicity. He argued that the president’s words were a threat to justice everywhere and announced the start of his impeachment campaign.
Green declared that the movement to impeach would be “bottom up” and driven by the people, emphasizing his previous efforts in laying the groundwork for impeachment. Despite his passionate speech, other Democrats, like House Democratic Caucus Chair Peter Aguilar, expressed less enthusiasm for Green’s current push.
Green’s statements highlighted his belief in standing for justice, even if it meant standing alone on this issue. He made clear his determination to bring articles of impeachment against the president for his actions.
Despite Green’s vigorous push, the impeachment movement is not a primary focus for the Democratic Party at this time.
