Braden West was born with Pfeiffer syndrome Type 2, a rare condition that causes skull malformations and an underdeveloped brain. Doctors gave him little hope of survival, predicting he wouldn’t live past 18 months. Despite this, Braden defied the odds, surviving more than 30 surgeries, including one with a 10% survival rate.
His mother, Cheri, who never gave up hope, described how Braden continued to make progress with the support of his family and caregivers.
A special bond formed with nurse Michele Eddings Linn, who was by Braden’s side when he almost died. Michele later took his senior photos, and their relationship remains strong. Braden graduated high school against all expectations and now, at 22, is living his dream of becoming a firefighter, joining the Moseleyville fire department.
Cheri encourages others to never give up, no matter the obstacles: “Keep climbing because the view at the top is amazing.” Braden’s story is a testament to faith, perseverance, and the power of love.
