Vice President J.D. Vance discussed his political future and the deadly mid-air collision over Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in an exclusive interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures.
When asked about his plans after the vice presidency, Vance responded, “You’re the first person who’s asked me that,” smiling.
In his first interview since becoming vice president, Vance addressed the recent crash that killed 67 people, linking it to short-staffed air traffic controllers due to policies from the previous administration. He also discussed President Trump’s remarks about the potential impact of progressive DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) policies on staffing at the Federal Aviation Administration.
Trump had mentioned that DEI standards could have led to underqualified personnel in critical roles, saying that intelligence and talent should be the top priority. Vance elaborated, stating, “If people were turned away due to DEI reasons, we should investigate everything.”
Vance also criticized the media’s focus on Trump’s comments, emphasizing that the president was clear that DEI policies have contributed to staffing shortages.
Meanwhile, Trump responded to another crash in Philadelphia, where a Lear 55 medical jet crashed, killing seven and injuring nearly 20. Trump expressed his condolences on Truth Social, praising first responders for their quick action.
