A dancer involved in Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show has been banned for life after a controversial incident. During Lamar’s performance, which featured cameos from SZA, Samuel L. Jackson, and others, a dancer unfurled a flag with the words “Gaza” and “Sudan,” referencing the ongoing conflicts in those regions.
The dancer, part of the 400-member field cast, displayed the flag late in the show while standing on a car on stage. Security quickly intervened, detaining the individual and escorting him from the stadium. The NFL confirmed the dancer would be banned for life from all NFL events and stadiums.
The NFL issued a statement commending security for handling the situation swiftly, clarifying that no one involved in the performance knew of the dancer’s intention to protest. Roc Nation, who organized the Super Bowl halftime show, also stated that the act was neither planned nor part of the production.
While the New Orleans Police Department confirmed the ejection, no further charges were filed. The protest comes amid political tensions following a statement from former President Donald Trump regarding U.S. involvement in the Gaza Strip.
