Bird flu (avian influenza) is a viral infection mainly affecting birds but can also infect humans and other animals. It spreads through contact with infected birds or their secretions, and outbreaks can cause economic damage. The H5N1 and H7N9 strains are particularly dangerous for humans.

Migratory birds play a major role in spreading the virus, making it difficult to contain.

Symptoms in humans range from mild to severe, resembling seasonal flu. They include fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, and in severe cases, respiratory distress, gastrointestinal issues, and neurological complications. Early detection is critical for timely medical intervention.

Certain groups, such as poultry workers and those exposed to infected birds, are at higher risk. Preventative measures like good hygiene, avoiding sick birds, and vaccination for poultry can help reduce the spread of bird flu. Prompt medical care for those showing symptoms is essential to prevent complications.
