Gene Hackman, the two-time Academy Award winner, and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, were found deceased in their Santa Fe home on Wednesday. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza reported no immediate signs of foul play, but the cause of death remains unknown.
Hackman, who turned 95 in January, had been married to Arakawa since 1991. He had a celebrated career spanning over four decades, retiring from acting in the late 2000s after expressing health concerns following a stress test.
Throughout his career, Hackman appeared in over 70 films, winning Oscars for The French Connection and Unforgiven. After retirement, he pursued hobbies like painting, fishing, and writing.
He is survived by three children from his previous marriage. The loss of Hackman and Arakawa is deeply felt, and condolences are extended to their family and loved ones.
