Fifteen-year-old Kenadi Dodds stepped onto the America’s Got Talent stage wearing a dress, denim jacket, and cowboy boots, carrying big dreams and high hopes.
The young singer from Logan, Utah, stood before judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and guest judge Eric Stonestreet, introducing herself and sharing her family’s story. She explained that she had been singing since she was a toddler and revealed that both of her parents are visually impaired and unable to drive. As a result, Kenadi relied on extended family, neighbors, and public transportation to attend her voice lessons.
Kenadi began singing powerfully: “Daddy always tells me to follow your dreams, / He says I can go far if I don’t care what people think, / And if I want to be a star, the key is working hard, / Yeah, that’s how you become your daddy’s country sweetheart.”
Kenadi received a standing ovation from the judges for her performance. “Well, you’re a little firecracker, aren’t you?” Cowell remarked.
“You really transform when you start playing compared to when you’re talking to us,” Mandel observed. “This is just the beginning for you. I promise you, your future is already set in stone from this moment.”
Vergara praised Kenadi’s country look and style, and admired her talent for writing her own songs. Cowell called her “authentic” and expressed surprise that her family was from Utah.
All four judges gave Kenadi a “yes,” sending her to the next round. Kenadi fulfilled her sister’s wish to see her on the AGT stage before her vision faded, delivering a stellar performance.
