Belinda Davids, a contestant on Britain’s Got Talent, and a spitting image of Whitney Houston, blew the judges and audience away with her rendition of the hit classic ‘I Have Nothing’.
Dressed to kill in a dazzling red gown with the signature curls, Belinda was obviously trying to emulate the famous singer in every way possible and she most definitely succeeded.
From the get go, Belinda’s voice sounds like a reincarnation of Whitney with its smooth operatic tone and expressive vibrato.
About a minute into the song is when we get to see Belinda’s true potential shine through with the line “ there’s nowhere to hide”. The lights behind her go up in a flash and the audience audibly gasps at the catharsis of the moment.
The camera frequently cuts to the judges who are either shaking their heads in disbelief or singing along seemingly oblivious to the cameras trained on them.
At around the halfway mark, there is a sudden key change and the backdrop gets yanked up into the rafters leaving the lights to shine unfiltered on Belinda’s performance. This is the a-ha moment of the performance where the judges jump to their feet in awe.
At the end of the performance, it was clear that Belinda not only did justice to the original song but even made it her own.
