When Vince Gill steps up to the mic, it’s more than a performance—it’s a conversation with your soul. In a powerful moment, he joined a group of children for What You Give Away, a song that doesn’t just echo in your ears; it stays in your heart. With lyrics that remind us, “To whom much is given, much is required,” it feels like a wake-up call in a world where giving often takes a backseat to greed. Gill doesn’t just sing the words; he makes you feel them—a message of kindness and truth that the world could use a little more of.

In 2006, Vince Gill released an album that became the subject of high praise. Called These Days, the 43-song box set displayed Gill’s multiple sides as a musician. While some songs were more country, others contained elements of jazz and rock.

These Days was nominated for two Grammys, and took home the award for Best Country Album. Its success was due in large part to its popular singles, including the song “What You Give Away.” The song was recorded as a duet along with Sheryl Crow, and charted in the Top 50.

“What You Give Away” is a song that really makes you stop and think. The narrators sing about a wealthy person who seems to look down on those below them. Although they have all the money in the world, they keep it to themselves. In response, the narrators sing about the importance of helping others, saying, “the measure of a man is one who lends a hand.

During the Nashville Public Education Foundation Hall of Fame Luncheon on Monday (October 17), Gill revisited the inspirational tune once more. Only this time he had more than one singing partner to help him out.

Joined by a group of young children, Gill sat off to the side of the stage and played guitar as he took the lead on “What You Give Away.” The chorus of children singing along with Gill brought a new sense of innocence to the song, which added further to its humble message.

When they children weren’t singing, they were all smiles as they listened to Gill. We bet that singing with him will be a memory they’ll cherish for the rest of their lives.

Tune in below to watch Gill’s heartwarming performance with these talented young singers. We wonder how many of them will follow in his footsteps and become country singers someday?
