Scotty McCreery delivers an emotional tribute to late friend killed in tragic car accident, performing Vince Gill’s ‘Go Rest High on That Mountain’ in a moment that left fans in tears and reminded everyone of the healing power of country music

Scotty McCreery is grieving the loss of his close friend, Yameer Greene.

Greene, 26, tragically lost his life in a car accident on Tuesday morning (July 21), when his vehicle was struck head-on by another car traveling at a high speed. According to WRAL-TV, both Greene and the two passengers in the other vehicle were killed.

Upon hearing the news of his friend’s untimely death, McCreery took to social media to express his condolences.

“So many great memories with you that I will always cherish. Everyone who knew you loved you,” he wrote. “Rest easy. I can’t wait to see you again one day.”

He later paid tribute to Greene with a heartfelt musical performance.

“For my buddy Yameer. One of the kindest and brightest souls I’ve ever met,” McCreery shared. “Everyone who knew him loved him. Love you and miss you, man. Rest easy.”

The singer-songwriter then performed a touching cover of Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” visibly emotional during the acoustic rendition, at one point appearing to hold back tears.

Both McCreery and Greene graduated from Garner High School in Garner, North Carolina.
