The 1960s marked a massive decade for Dolly Parton when it came to her career and even her personal life. For starters, she released her debut album, Hello, I’m Dolly, in 1967 and married her husband, Carl Dean, the year before. Over the decades that followed, Dolly went on to release dozens of albums, star in hit films, and even create a theme park around her likeness. A true icon when it comes to music and business, Dolly recently lost her husband, who passed away at 82 years old. Having shared a marriage for six decades, the singer shared how she will always keep him close.
Staying away from the spotlight after Dean’s passing, Dolly attended the 2025 opening day at Dollywood on March 14th. Excited to see fans, she shared a few fond memories of her late husband and how he loved going to the theme park. Speaking with Knox News, she admitted, “I’m doing better than I thought I would.”
With Dean passing on March 3rd, Dolly continued to come to terms with his death. “I’ve been with him 60 years. So I’m going to have to re-learn some of the things that we’ve done. But I’ll keep him always close.” While the cause of Dean’s death remains uncertain, the singer noted how he “suffered” during the final years of his life. Thankful he is no longer in pain, she said, “I’m at peace knowing he’s at peace, but that don’t keep me from missing him and loving him.”
Carl Dean Helped Dolly Parton When It Came To Dollywood
As for his love for Dollywood, Dolly revealed Dean would go to the theme park undercover, even buying his own ticket. “He bought his own ticket — stood in line and got his ticket. He didn’t want somebody giving him a ticket ’cause he was Dolly’s husband.” She continued, “He’d come up to East Tennessee to see some of my family and people that he loved of my people. And so he’d just think, ‘Well, I think I’ll go to Dollywood, check things out.’”
Able to see the park from the perspective of a regular guest, Dean even offered feedback to Dolly. “He wasn’t coming to criticize, but he would notice things and he would say, ‘You might want to bring this to their attention.’”
While not a fan of the spotlight, Dean was a fan of Dolly as the country singer insisted his passing caused a “hole” in her heart.
