Fashioning a promising career in country music, Luke Bryan landed dozens of No. 1 hits and sold over 75 million albums over the last two decades. And that was just the start as he also won the Entertainer of the Year Award five times. A top name in country music, the singer eventually stepped away from the studio to help judge on American Idol. Becoming a regular judge on the series, it seemed that not everybody knew who he was when the country star recalled being mistaken for none other than Blake Shelton.
Although two completely different singers, Shelton and Bryan started their careers in country music around the same time. And many of their songs focused on the love of partying, drinking, women, and trucks. Embracing the country lifestyle, Bryan joked about a time when a person thought he was Shelton.
The incident apparently happened when Bryan went fishing with his son. Needing to stop by a convenience store for some supplies, the singer said, “This kind of big guy, tatted up… he’s just staring me down. I’m like, ‘Oh yeah. He recognizes me.’ I walk up to the counter and he goes, ‘Man, God dude. You look just like Blake Shelton. You’re not Blake Shelton, are you?’”
Blake Shelton Might Want That Luke Bryan Money
Expecting an interaction with a fan, Bryan received a completely different situation. Wanting to keep the joke going, the singer continued, “I said, ‘I’m not Blake Shelton.’ He goes, ‘You gotta get that all the time, right?’ I was like, ‘No, every now and then I get it.’ He goes, ‘You’re his doppelganger. You know who he is? He’s on that TV show.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I know who he is.’ He goes, ‘Could you imagine what it would be like to have Blake Shelton’s money?’”
While laughing off the situation, both Bryan and Shelton have done great for themselves using their country music success to move into other ventures. Most notably, Bryan is in the midst of judging American Idol season 23, while Shelton’s new singing competition, The Road, is coming to CBS this fall.
