With a new season of American Idol underway, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan returned to their chairs once again, hoping to find the next hit singer. But this season was different as Carrie Underwood returned as a judge. And over the past few weeks, fans got a chance to watch Underwood make dreams come true and offer wonderful feedback. While the auditions are still underway, Underwood recently found herself second guessing her own decision when she got a chance to hear contestant Mikaela Bautista perform alongside her father.

Having to stand in front of talented performers like Richie, Bryan, and Underwood, Bautista felt the pressure as she took her spot. Only getting one chance, the singer decided to cover Whitney Houston’s “Saving All My Love for You.” While both Richie and Bryan loved the performance, Underwood was left wanting more. Ending up passing on the singer, Bautista made it through thanks to both Bryan and Richie saying “Yes.”
As for Underwood, she explained her decision, stating that she wanted more emotions from Bautista. Knowing that it can take years for a performer to learn how to connect with the audience, the rising star shocked Underwood when she performed “The Prayer” with her father, who happened to be Vhen Bautista. A popular singer in the Philippines, the father/daughter duo covered “The Prayer” by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli.
Carrie Underwood Changes Her Mind On ‘American Idol’
Blown away by the emotion and power of the performance, Underwood insisted, “You weren’t thinking about it, you were just singing! Can I change my judgement? I would like to strike my previous and you have three yeses.”
With Underwood knowing that the judges can get it wrong, she quickly moved to make it right. But thankfully, Bautista was already heading to Hollywood with the support of the other judges. Thrilled for her father’s support, the singer embraced him, insisting, “This one is for both of us.”
Fans appeared to agree with the support from the judges as comments on the performance read, “Thirty seconds into her singing with her dad I started crying!! So beautiful!! Thank you!! Bravo!!” Another person added, “That duet with her dad was beautiful.”
