Landry Champlin Turns Her American Idol Dream Into A Dream Come True
One “Good Girl” from Texas delivered an equally “good” performance during the auditions for Season 23 of American Idol. So good, in fact, that she got Carrie Underwood to sing along!
23-year-old Landry Champlin is a pageant coach from Colleyville, Texas. She stepped into the audition room with a huge smile on her face as she greeted judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan.
When asked who her musical inspirations are, Champlin gestured toward Underwood and said, “I’m looking at her right here.” She explained how she grew up listening to Underwood’s music. Because of that, she planned to sing one of Underwood’s songs for her audition that day.
Before she started singing, Champlin told Underwood she had a dream about her audition. In the dream, Underwood sang with her and then told her she was going to Hollywood.
“If you want to make that come true…” Champlin joked before launching into the song.
Landry Champlin’s “Good Girl” Performance Turns Into A Duet With Carrie Underwood
Champlin covered Underwood’s “Good Girl.” The track was released in 2012 as the lead single from her album Blown Away.
“Good Girl” reached the #1 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart and also crossed over to claim the #18 spot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The music video for “Good Girl” later won the CMT Music Award for Video of the Year.
Because of its fast pace and high notes, “Good Girl” is arguably one of the most difficult songs in Underwood’s entire collection. But Champlin powered through it with ease, all while maintaining the song’s signature feisty attitude.
Underwood jumped in to sing a few lines, making Champlin’s dream of singing a duet with her come true. Her joy was evident at the end of her performance as she exclaimed, “That was the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me.”
Underwood made it clear she also thought the performance was pretty cool! She praised how Champlin handled the song, saying, “I feel like you definitely made that your own.”
Richie and Bryan also complimented Champlin’s voice, stage presence, and overall energy.
In the end, the judges wasted no time in casting three “yes” votes for Champlin and handing her a Golden Ticket to Hollywood!
“Your dream came true!” Underwood said happily as she held up the ticket for Champlin to claim.
