Kelly Clarkson paid a powerful tribute to Reba McEntire at the Kennedy Center Honors with a stunning performance of Fancy. As she honored the country legend—who also happens to be her former mother-in-law—Clarkson expressed her gratitude, thanking McEntire for being “a rad grandma to our kids.” Her electrifying rendition of the classic hit was both heartfelt and commanding, earning praise from the audience and McEntire herself.

Kelly Clarkson was definitely one of the highlights of the performances at the 41st annual Kennedy Center Honors which aired Wednesday (Dec. 26) on CBS. Clarkson sang “Fancy” as a tribute to one of the night’s honoree’s, Reba McEntire and simply crushed it.

The Kennedy Center released a small clip of Clarkson’s performance (watch below), but the whole show is available on CBS All Access. Besides McEntire, the 2018 honorees were Cher, Philip Glass, Wayne Shorter, and the creative team behind Hamilton.

Clarkson is married to McEntire’s stepson, and the American Idol winner started her number by thanking Reba for “being a rad grandma to our kids.”

Clarkson wasn’t the only one to honor Reba, as Lady Antebellum, Brooks & Dunn and Kristin Chenoweth each honored McEntire with a song.
