Pope Francis will be laid to rest with a heartfelt document known as the “Rogito,” along with other traditional items typically found in a pope’s coffin. The Rogito serves as a biography of the first Latin American pope and is written in Ecclesiastical Latin. It is sealed in a metal cylinder and placed inside the coffin, following the customs of the Roman Church.
In addition to the Rogito, Pope Francis will be buried with his pallium, a white wool vestment worn during services, as well as coins and medals from his pontificate. The Holy See Press Office released the full Latin text of the Rogito ahead of the Requiem Mass, describing Francis as a “simple and much-loved shepherd” who dedicated his life to serving the poorest.
The document highlights his humble beginnings in Buenos Aires and his Jesuit education, emphasizing his commitment to living among the people. It notes his efforts to foster dialogue among different religions and his choice to reside in modest quarters to maintain contact with the faithful.
