Think nicotine-free vaping is harmless? Think again.
A new 2024 study is shattering the myth that vaping without nicotine is a safe alternative to smoking. Researchers found that even nicotine-free e-cigarettes negatively affect blood vessel function—a red flag for your long-term heart and circulatory health.
Vaping may look clean and modern, but what’s inside those puffs isn’t so innocent.
Beyond the base liquids, vape juice often contains chemicals like diacetyl (linked to popcorn lung), benzaldehyde (a respiratory irritant), and even heavy metals from the coils. These ingredients, when inhaled, can stress your lungs and blood vessels—regardless of nicotine content.
The study compared traditional cigarettes, nicotine vapes, and nicotine-free vapes—and all three harmed vascular function.
The most severe damage came from nicotine vapes, but nicotine-free vapes weren’t far behind, debunking the belief they’re a safe fallback. Lead researcher Dr. Marianna Nabbout warned that even short-term exposure caused immediate changes—raising concerns about chronic use and long-term health risks.
For teens and non-smokers especially, this is a wake-up call.
Vaping isn’t just a “healthier” habit—it could be silently damaging your cardiovascular system. So if you picked it up thinking it was harmless, now’s the time to think twice. The safest choice for your heart and lungs? Skip the vape altogether.
