From a Walmart checkout lane to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, Kayla Slone’s journey feels like a movie—but it’s beautifully real. A West Virginia native with a voice straight out of the mountains, Kayla was filmed singing Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors while working in her Walmart uniform. Her voice, eerily reminiscent of Dolly’s, went viral overnight. Soon, she was flying for the first time, appearing on Anderson Live, getting invited to the ACM Awards, and lighting up local news. But her dream wasn’t fame—it was to sing so her coal miner husband could leave the mines. That dream hit its peak when she stood on the Opry stage, singing Coal Miner’s Daughter to a packed house. In that moment, Kayla wasn’t just a cashier with a song—she was country music’s next chapter.

Walmart Cashier Turned Country Singer Kayla Slone Appears On The Grand Ole' Opry [VIDEO]

West Virginia native Kayla Slone’s life changed when her friend filmed her singing at work, where she was a cashier at Walmart. Standing behind her cash register and wearing her Walmart name tag, Slone beautifully sang Dolly Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors“.

Walmart worker delivers incredible rendition of Dolly Parton classic

People went crazy for her cover, especially since her voice sounds eerily similar to Parton’s! She was immediately asked to be interviewed on the local news, made an appearance on Anderson Cooper’s show Anderson Live, where she was asked to attend the 2013 ACM Awards by country star Dierks Bentley.

Slone hails from a small town in West Virginia and had never been on a plane before traveling to New York to be on Cooper’s show. She admitted that she wants to take her singing career to the next level so her husband, a coal miner, won’t have to work in the mines anymore.

The cherry on top of the cake? She was invited to sing at the Grand Ole Opry. She stood in the historic Opry Circle in front of a sold-out crowd to sing the Loretta Lynn classic, “Coal Miner’s Daughter”.

Her classic country-sounding voice was a perfect match for this song, and even got encouragement from Lynn herself.
