It’s heartbreaking how cruel people can be to animals. Riona, a sweet pitbull mix, endured unimaginable suffering when her owner set her on fire last year. Now, nearly a year later, she is finally heading to her new forever home.
In June, residents of Nutbush, Tennessee, witnessed the horrifying sight of Riona running down the street engulfed in flames, reeking of gasoline. Witness statements and surveillance footage confirmed she was intentionally set on fire. Despite severe injuries, including the loss of an ear and burns across her body, her left eye was saved after emergency medical care.
Tails of Hope Dog Rescue took Riona in, providing ongoing treatments, skin grafts, and full-body wraps. Despite her trauma, Riona remained remarkably sweet, wagging her tail throughout her recovery. Her resilience captured the hearts of many, inspiring donations and gifts to aid her healing.
Meanwhile, 43-year-old Quishon Brown was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and other offenses. Riona’s story also contributed to the passage of a new animal cruelty bill in Tennessee.
After months of recovery, Riona’s condition improved, and now she is starting a new chapter. Tails of Hope drove her to a loving home with other dogs, children, and a family experienced in medical care. “Her story is just beginning,” the rescue shared.
Riona’s journey highlights the vital work of animal rescues. Shortly after rehoming her, Tails of Hope welcomed another burn victim, proving there’s always more to be done. Riona’s story remains a testament to hope and resilience.
