My Mother-in-Law Accused Me of Stealing, Karma Stepped In With a Twist

From the moment I married her son, my mother-in-law made it clear she didn’t like me. She’d always find ways to belittle me, commenting on how I dressed and criticizing my cooking. One day, my mother-in-law stormed into our house, screaming that I’d stolen her diamond ring.

“It’s not our fault you’re poor,” she said while throwing the contents of my purse onto the floor. Tears filled my eyes. I called my husband and begged him to come home. When he arrived and saw the mess, he started laughing, “Mom, we installed security cameras last week. Let’s check the footage.” Her eyes widened in panic, and she started mumbling about how unnecessary that was. We played the footage, and there it was-her slipping the ring into her coat pocket the last time she visited.

She turned bright red, stammering something about how she “forgot” to take it out. My husband told her to leave and said she wasn’t welcome back until she apologized. How do I deal with someone who clearly wants to see me fail? Should I even try to rebuild a relationship with her after this? I could really use some advice.
