Single mom of 5 faces jail time for leaving her teen to babysit

Melissa Henderson, a single mother of five from Georgia, is facing potential jail time for leaving her 4-year-old son, Thaddeus, in the care of her 14-year-old daughter while she went to work. With day care closed due to COVID-19, Melissa had no other options. While the teen was busy with schoolwork, Thaddeus briefly played outside, and a neighbor, concerned for his safety, called 911. Melissa was arrested for criminal reckless conduct, despite no harm coming to her son. If convicted, she could face a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Many online feel this punishment is too harsh, questioning if the authorities overreacted. What do you think? Should she face jail time?
