Leslie Charleson, ‘General Hospital’ icon, dies at 79

Leslie Charleson, the beloved actress who portrayed Monica Quartermaine on ABC’s General Hospital, passed away on January 12 at the age of 79. Her death marks the end of an era for fans and colleagues alike, as she had been an integral part of the show since 1977. General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini paid tribute to her, remembering her as the matriarch of the cast and crew, known for her quick wit and incredible presence on set.

Throughout her career, Leslie faced challenges, including mobility issues from falls, but she remained dedicated to her work until her last appearance in December 2023. The cause of her death has not been disclosed, though she had been hospitalized following a recent fall. Born in 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri, Leslie began her career in 1964 and quickly rose to fame for her role on General Hospital, where her character Monica faced numerous personal challenges, including battling breast cancer.
