13 People Whose Misfortunes Could Fill a Best-Selling Horror

  • One night, I rushed to the hospital after my father suffered a heart attack. I was denied entry to the ICU, but hours later, a nurse allowed me to see him. Months later, my father called me, urging me to watch the news. I learned the nurse who had helped me wasn’t actually a nurse at all—she had been arrested for impersonating one. She had never graduated nursing school, and several patients had suffered under her care.Although my father was never treated by her, it was unsettling to realize how she had infiltrated the hospital undetected. The whole situation made me appreciate the importance of careful oversight in healthcare. While I was relieved my father was safe, I couldn’t stop thinking about the other patients who were affected.

A few years later, something equally unsettling happened. While playing the game FEAR at night, I turned around to see someone standing in my doorway, looking eerily like a character from the game. It turned out to be a visitor of my roommates who had sneaked into my room without me noticing.

The intruder had been silently watching me play for an unknown amount of time, which left me shaken. It was a reminder of how easily personal spaces can be violated, and how strange reality can feel when something unexpected happens.
