Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming border czar, announced plans for mass deportations starting immediately after the inauguration. In an interview with Fox News, Homan vowed that ICE would be empowered to carry out its duties without hesitation, targeting millions of undocumented migrants.
Homan confirmed that a large-scale deportation operation would begin on Tuesday, with 200 ICE officers heading to Chicago, but emphasized that raids would take place nationwide. He stressed that ICE would be allowed to arrest criminal aliens and enforce immigration laws without apology.
Homan also addressed the challenges ICE has faced under the Biden administration, pointing out that in sanctuary cities, agents have often had to make collateral arrests to locate criminals who couldn’t be jailed. He noted that ICE would focus on criminal aliens and those who have already been ordered deported.
Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance have made it clear that deportations will prioritize individuals with criminal records, and there are over 1.4 million people who have been ordered deported but remain in the U.S. Homan promised that ICE would “do what they’re good at” in enforcing immigration law.
