This is news to me!

In today’s busy world, many people leave their phone chargers plugged in even when not in use. This habit, driven by convenience, may seem harmless, but electricians warn it can pose risks and waste energy.

Chargers continue to draw small amounts of electricity, even when not charging a device. This “vampire energy” can add up over time, raising electricity bills and putting strain on the power grid.

Leaving chargers plugged in also increases the risk of fire, especially with low-quality or damaged chargers. Overheating can lead to electrical fires, so unplugging chargers when not needed is a simple safety precaution.

In addition to fire risks, idle chargers waste energy, contributing to higher carbon emissions and unnecessary costs. Unplugging chargers can help save money and reduce environmental impact while extending the lifespan of both chargers and outlets.
