A man from Katy, Texas, Kevin Dominguez, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for assaulting a U.S. Border Patrol agent. On August 1, 2023, Dominguez drove through a checkpoint where a canine alerted agents to movement in his trunk. He reversed, striking an agent before fleeing. A high-speed chase led to the discovery of an undocumented individual from Honduras. Dominguez pleaded guilty in January 2024.
In El Paso, four individuals were arrested for smuggling undocumented migrants. The operation led to additional arrests and charges, with suspects facing up to 10 years in prison.
Lastly, Melvin Armando Funes-Canales, a Honduran citizen with multiple deportations and criminal convictions, was arrested for illegal re-entry in Austin. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
