Is It Better to Leave the Bathroom Door Open or Closed After Taking a Shower or Bath?

Leaving the door open afterward and running the exhaust fan allows humid air to escape instead of settling on surfaces. Better ventilation may also reduce airborne mold spores that can irritate people with allergies or asthma.

When children or pets make an open door unsafe, keep it closed but run the fan for 30–60 minutes. Opening a window, wiping wet walls, and drying towels and bath mats can also help control moisture.

These small habits may seem unimportant, but repeating them after every shower can protect your bathroom, reduce mold growth, and support healthier indoor air.
